PROJECT THEMES

Our vision is to establish a globally recognised entity for translational research encompassing biomarker discovery, diagnostic development, and drug discovery and therapy. Our research teams focus on circulatory and immunological biomarkers, exosome-based drug delivery systems, cell-free therapeutics, and personalised medicine. We aim to contribute to the country's research base and improve clinical decision-making. The team is working on the following activities:

  • The development of circulatory biomarkers from various biofluids can provide guidance in routine POC diagnostics and can aid in clinical decision-making for therapy/monitoring/recurrence. Our research focuses on using exosomes, cell-free DNA, and microRNA to arrive at the development of biomarkers.
  • Establishment of drug Delivery Systems – Extracellular vesicles are natural intracellular membrane vesicles involved in biological and pathological processes with varied compositions. Their properties of biocompatibility, preferred tumour homing, adjustable targeting efficiency, amenability to engineering, and stability, make them effective drug delivery vehicles for various diseases and cancer therapy. Our research focuses on using exosomes as drug-delivery systems for the targeted delivery of small molecules, macromolecules, and nucleotides.
  • Development of Cell-free therapeutics – Exosomes from dendritic cells, regulatory cells, and NK cells can serve as therapeutics. Research projects are on ging in regenerative stem cell-derived EVs and an exosome-based dendritic cell vaccine that would have significantly improved traditional dendritic cells.
